About Dental Implants

Allowing you to talk and laugh freely, dental implants are a type of dental procedure that involves the diagnosis and treatment of failing or missing teeth, cosmetic imperfections, tooth extractions and restores all your functions of a beautiful smile.

Dental implants typically have three parts:

Small screw made of titanium (the implant) – help to place the implant in the jawbone.

A connector – known as an abutment is placed on top of the dental implant to hold and support your crowns.

The crowns are custom-made to match your natural teeth and fit your mouth.

Different Types of Dental Implants

Single Tooth Implant

A natural and comfortable replacement if you are missing one or a few teeth. Single tooth implants involve one titanium screw, an abutment, and a prosthetic crown that matches the shape, size and color of the surrounding teeth.

Key Points:

Implant Bridge

Suitable if you are missing multiple teeth that are adjacent to one another. Dental implant bridges are used to replace multiple adjacent teeth, but instead of using one screw per missing tooth, two or more implants are spaced apart and joined together with a bridge of prosthetic teeth that covers the entire gap.

Key Points:

All on 4 / Fixed Full Arch Implants

The best option if you have no salvageable teeth or none at all, offering a fixed and permanent full replacement of a full upper and/or lower set of teeth.

Dental Implant Process

Step 1: Consultation

Meet The Doctor

Outline your smile goals, help determine your needs, answer any and all questions, and get clear on the best solution for your oral health. To understand the full picture of your smile we take a 3D CBCT scan to create an intensely accurate, high-resolution visual image of your teeth and jaw.

Custom Treatment Plan

The doctor develops a treatment plan customized to the health, aesthetic, and functional needs of your smile. We may include teeth extraction, bone grafting, or other treatments to ensure your mouth is fully prepared to receive implants.

We will also discuss costs, insurance, financial information, and third-party financing.

Step 2: Surgery

The implant, a small titanium screw, is surgically placed into the jawbone where the tooth or teeth are missing. The surgery is minimally invasive but no more so than having a tooth removed. Sedation options are always provided to help you relax, and you can return home the same day as your appointment.

Step 3: Healing Period

After the implant is placed, a period of healing is required for the implant to fuse with the bone, which requires at least four months of healing to fully integrate with the bone.

Step 4: Placement of Restorations

After the dental implants have fully healed and integrated into your bone, the doctor will attach an abutment, which connects the screw to the new tooth, and depending on how many teeth we replace, we will attach a single dental crown, a series of crowns, an over-denture, or a full arch prosthesis. Dr. Bauer is skilled in the artistry and technicality of prosthetic design, helping you achieve your desired smile through customized, natural-looking implants.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is dental implant surgery painful?
We understand that fear can keep you from getting the treatment you need to restore your smile. That’s why Dr. Amogh offers multiple sedation options to help reduce fear, anxiety, and discomfort during dental procedures. You should not feel any pain or discomfort during the procedure. After surgery, you may be prescribed medication to alleviate the temporary post-operative pain.
What are dental implantsand how do they differ from dentures or bridges?

Dental implants are a revolutionary solution for missing teeth or dentures. Unlike dentures or bridges, implants provide a permanent base for replacement teeth. These artificial roots, typically made of titanium, are inserted into the jawbone, where they fuse with the bone to create a stable foundation. This fusion, known as osseointegration, ensures that the implants remain securely in place, just like natural teeth roots. The top part of the implant, visible above the gum line, is custom-made to match the color and shape of your natural teeth, offering a seamless and natural appearance.

How much do dental implants cost?

Dental implant pricing varies based on several key factors:

    1. Number of Implants: The total cost increases with the number of implants required. For example, multiple implants or full mouth reconstruction will cost substantially more than a single implant.
    2. Insurance Coverage: Dental insurance coverage for implants can vary. Some plans may cover a part of the cost, but it’s often limited. It’s important to check with your insurance provider to understand what portion, if any, is covered.
    3. Additional Procedures: If additional dental procedures are needed, such as bone grafting, sinus lifts, or gum surgery, the overall cost will increase. These procedures may be necessary to ensure the success of the implant but add to the complexity and expense of the treatment.
    4. Dentist’s Expertise: The cost may vary based on the dentist’s level of expertise and specialization. Procedures performed by specialists like oral surgeons or periodontists might be more expensive than those done by general dentists.

Why are implants expensive?

The pricing of dental implants is influenced by several key factors, including the quality of the materials used, the complexity and extent of the procedures involved, and their long-term value.

Dental implants offer a durable solution for enhancing your smile, often lasting up to 25 years with appropriate home care and preventive measures. This longevity represents a cost-effective choice over time, which is reflected in the initial investment. In comparison to options like dentures, implants provide a more sustainable and long-lasting fix.

The implant process typically spans 3 to 6 months and may involve a series of procedures tailored to your specific needs. The use of high-quality materials, designed to ensure a secure and lasting fit for your new teeth, contributes to the overall higher initial cost. This investment, however, is for a superior and enduring solution for dental restoration.

Will my new dental implant require special care?

This is the beauty of high quality dental implants, you can treat your implants like natural teeth, brushing and flossing them daily. We recommend that you also visit your dentist twice a year for dental checkups and routine dental cleanings.

Regain your confidence, chew effortlessly, and smile without reservation.
